Pilsen has been a neighborhood dear to my heart for some time now.  The sites, the sounds, the smells, it really is little piece of Mexico amidst the booming dowtown that it is neighbor to.  Pilsen has its own attitude and personality that really sets themselves apart from other Mexican influenced neighborhoods that surround the little community.  Recently plagued by hipsters and those seeking a more "adventurous hood" to live in, Pilsen still holds its ground as one of Chicago's most colorful neighborhood.  I'm not realy sure as to what the exact boundaries of  Pilsen is but I would say that it starts at 18th st. up to 22nd st. and goes West to Western and East to Canalport st.  I invited my good friend Hernando Orozco of Orozco Photography because I suck at taking pictures.  Here is part 1.

This tile mosaic is right under the Western Pink link stop.

This is right by 18th and Western.

Representin son!

I remember seeing this Che image long before frat boys were wearing the tee shirts with the same image.

Hernando has a fancy fish eye lens that can do neat tricks like this.

Continuing along 18th st.  This is the Orozco arts academy.  No relation to Hernando Orozco, my photographer.

I recognize some of the people on this wall, but what I was most interested was the freakishly big giant cowboy.

Nothing says community like a good Coca Cola painted ad.

18th and Paulina.

Hernando getting all artsy fartsy on us.

Stopped by good friend Rahmaan's studio in Pilsen to see what he's been up to...and to use the washroom.

Rahmaan is a painting machine.

Loves his Bruce Lee.  I just don't get it.

Talking shop and pretending to be the lady on the canvas.

This is what I envision an artist's studio to look like...cluttered, colorful, and full of projects.

See you guys in Part 2.
