Drinks Over Dearborn (650 N. Dearborn St.) positions itself as “a beer, wine and spirits boutique.” The proprietor is Kyle McHugh. Terry Sullivan says Kyle McHugh is the guy to know when it comes to booze. Terry Sullivan frequently knows what he’s talking about when it comes to booze and guys who know about booze.

McHugh launched Drinks Over Dearbon (DoD) just before the economy tanked and he doesn’t mind telling you that it has been a tough year, so tough DoD may not make it. Have you ever had a favorite shop, bar or restaurant that suddenly closed and you thought, “Gee, I didn’t know they were in trouble. I wish I had gone there more often when I had the chance.”

If you’re a fan of DoD, you now have that chance.

In August, McHugh lauched the "Save DoD" campaign. A lot of local bar stars are fans and doing what they can to spread the word. McHugh isn't asking for donations, just business.

Never been? The store is on Dearborn at Erie, on the second floor of that chunky green building a few doors north of Excalibur. Their website is here. They are big on special, in-store events and the best way to keep up with those is by subscribing to their free email newsletter.

In his initial 'Save DoD' appeal, McHugh wrote, “Drinks Over Dearborn is the beginning of my American dream - the ability to bring great products to people, with first-class knowledge and service to make their experience the best it can be. It's just me: every dime I have, a few I don't, and two years worth of long hours and countless hurdles to make it to this point.”
