Jason Mraz loves Hawaii, Korea and polaroids
Taking a quick look at singer/songwriter
Jason Mraz's touring schedule in the past few years, you can see that he has been to virtually every part of the globe. Maybe he should rename his tour, "Where in the world is Jason Mraz?" Mraz has gained the spotlight in the past year for his hit song, "I'm Yours", which was nominated for three Grammys earlier this year including Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
In 2008, the music video for "I'm Yours" was released. Having visited countries all over the world, Mraz chose Hawaii as the backdrop for the video. The "I'm Yours" video was shot primarily on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu, with one segment showing Jason and his friends jumping into the Maunawili waterfall in Honolulu. Mraz has performed on the islands of Oahu and Maui and vacationed in Hawaii several times. An avid surfer, Jason's laid-back and carefree attitude come across in the video.
Mraz has a special fondness for Hawaii because that is where he learned to surf back in 2005. Jason's idea of a vacation is anywhere he can surf: "It started to occur to me that if there’s anything that God wants us to do, if there’s anything that God would want us to do, it’s surf. Everything about it is just so right. I think if this whole music career just crumbled, I’d probably figure out a way that I could just live by the beach and make enough wages where I could just surf most of the time. It’s great, it’s so fulfilling."
Mraz brings his fans along with him on tour in a virtual sense by writing in his online journal every week from his latest concert destination. When he was recently performing in Korea, he revealed in his journal entry entitled "
Seoul Searching" that Korea is his favorite place to perform live. He didn't really explain why except to say about Korea: "...audiences don’t just boogie, they bounce. I have said in numerous interviews around the world that my favorite place to play is Korea, and once again, the kids prove me RIGHT."
The photography book was released in October 2008 and features photos of abstract angles of objects and people shot from the clever perspective of a creative artist. However, there is no written description for any of the pictures. As a result, the observer is left in the dark about what global location they were shot in. While some readers may be frustrated by this anonymity, maybe they could interpret the polaroids as seasoned traveler Jason Mraz's way of saying, "here's a sample of what's out there, now go explore for yourself."
