The terms IQ and EQ have been popularized in modern culture and refer to intelligence quotient and emotional quotient. But what about one's sense of spirituality and soulful living? Can you develop your SQ or spiritual quotient?
Intellectually, you can enhance mental capacity, increase rational knowledge, and integrate information through experience.
Emotionally, you can boost confidence, create loving relationships, and foster inner happiness.
For spiritual evolution, the formula and techniques are more abstract than concrete, and progress should only be measured according to each person's own track record.
In contrast to organized religion, spirituality pertains to living an enlightened daily life full of spirit and love and creating a conscious, personal connection with your higher power, whether you choose to call it Universe, God, Source, Spirit, Life Force Energy, Creator, or another name.
Though the terms religion and spirituality vary with regard to meaning, you can still incorporate aspects of world religions into your spiritual advancement practices. You may choose to cleanse your chakras like the Hindus, meditate like Buddha, and ask the Catholic saints for help all in the same day.
Starting a spiritual journey or progressing with one's purposeful path is uniquely individual and must resonate with each person's personality, attributes, natural talents and interests, and spiritual tradition preference.
The purpose of life and honoring a higher power connection is to evolve consciously in mind, body, heart, and soul. To love yourself and feel joy just for being is an elemental ingredient in increasing your spiritual quotient.
Extending that love and joy out to your family and friends, the world community, and nature and the environment is also an aspect of maturing a spiritual sense of self.
As a soul being inhabiting a physical body on Earth, your true essence is spiritual and cosmic in nature. You just have to learn to tap into that infinite potential to increase self-awareness, practice daily holistic care, create meaningful connections, and live according to your purpose and passion.
Spiritual practices, such as journaling, prayer and meditation, psychic development, gratitude, and yoga, can augment a sense of love, integrity, and inner power.
You can also explore and research information on various spiritual paths through the library, bookstores, Internet, local workshops and discussions, or out-of-town metaphysical retreats.
Network socially or digitally with others who share a similar interest in conscious and insightful living.
Spend time in nature often and allow yourself to receive healing energy through plants, animals, crystals, the sun, stars, and the moon. In return, respect the environment through litter clean-ups, recycling, and reducing waste.
Follow inner guidance, synchronicity, signs from the angels, and other gut instincts to lead you toward the next step of your path. Trust that each rung of the ladder will be revealed when you've completed your time on the previous one.
You may encounter various tools and techniques such as Tarot cards, pendulums, sacred geometry, mantras, and power animals. However, it's important to understand your real power comes from within yourself and your personal decision to evolve, not from attachments to external tricks and tools.
As you progress on your journey, remember to enjoy the ride regardless of where the road takes you. Keep whatever resonates with you and release the rest as it probably isn't part of your path at this time.
