Mike Florio of Pro Foottball Talk is reporting about a "rumor making the rounds" that former head coach Joe Gibbs could return to the Redskins in the role of team president to help select a general manager and new coach for next season.

Jason Reid at Redsins Insider threw cold water on that rumor citing a souce close to Gibbs said that they "seriously doubted" Gibbs would return to the Redskins in any capacity.  Gibbs is a very busy man with his NASCAR team, assiting his son Coy's motorcross team, and his ministry.

UPDATE:  Larry Weisman puts the fire out for good, citing a "high ranking fella" who called the rumor "dumb."

Even if Gibbs were to return as a team president, I'm not so sure how beneficial that situation would be. How plugged into the NFL has Gibbs been since he retired after the 2007?  A team president would have to have his ear to the NFL pavment to identify the best GM an coaching options available.  With all that Gibbs has been up to latey, I seriously doubt he's been that dialed into the league to come in and find the next Scott Pioli or Jim Harbaugh.
