Brigadeiro, a festive Brazilian treat. Tudoreceita.com

Now that Brazil has been selected as the official host of the 2016 Olympics there's only one thing left to do: celebrate!

Making history as the first South American city to ever host the Olympics, all eyes will be on Rio de Janeiro when the world's biggest sporting event is staged in this majestic city.

Every year, an estimated half a million people flock to Rio's fiery carnival and samba parade. So it's no surprise Brazilians know how to party!

Although the 2016 Olympics are far away, you can bring a little bit of Rio's festive spirit into your home with Brigadeiro, a popular Brazilian fudge candy.

This easy recipe is a surefire way to get the party started long before the Olympics set foot in the carnival capital of the world.

Just remember to have many caipirihna's on hand!

Brigadeiro recipe

  • 1 can condensed milk (14 oz.)
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp high-quality cocoa powder
  • Chocolate sprinkles, as needed

Put all ingredients in a saucepan (except sprinkles) and let simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring continuously. It is important to simmer gently for the full 20 minutes or until all ingredients are combined. You'll know it's the right consistency when you stir the mix and you can see the bottom of the pan.

Pour the mix into a greased baking sheet and let cool. Once cool, scoop out teaspoonfuls of the mix and roll into balls using the palm of your hands. To facilitate the rolling, grease your hands before hand. Once the rounds are made, roll into chocolate sprinkles and set aside.

Voilà! You are done. Save these delicacies until the end of your evening to treat your guests to a special surprise.
