UPDATE 4/01: Portero Private has offered Examiner.com readers 10 additional invitations (originally, I could provide only 3). So therefore, the first 13 commenters will receive an invite by email.
Online auction-based luxury retailer Portero.com launched the beta version of Portero Private, an invitation-only private sale site.
The site will feature 24- to 72-hour events offering limited inventory of luxury brands at special prices to invited members.
"We already have done value business with the world's greatest brands for years," said Portero.com CEO Bob Schwartz. "So this is an easy addition for us."
The concept of Portero Private is similar to that of sites like Ideeli and HauteLook, which also offer private, invitation-only sale events. However, Portero Private has, for the time being, limited the number of invitations per member to three.
According to Schwartz, a "select mix of customers and prospects" were invited to the beta version of Portero Private. The site is also being selective as to the items and events they will feature.
The first sale event, which starts on Thursday at 12 p.m. EST and lasts 48 hours, will feature select Hermes scarves.
Other upcoming events will feature brands such as Temple St Clair, Montblanc, Chanel and Cartier.
Eventually, Portero will launch a more feature rich and technologically sophisticated main site offering multiple ways to shop luxury value.
As a Portero Private member, I can invite three of my readers to join. Interested? Leave a comment telling me which brand you are most excited to shop, and I'll send the first three an invitation! If invites are ever expanded, I'll then get to the rest of the list.
