1. Houston Dynamo: (-) Beaten 1-0 by the Galaxy on an off day? Very unsettling, but not quite enough to dislodge the top dog.
2. Chicago Fire: (+1) Two impressive games in SuperLiga make them more convincing, despite being smoked 2-1 by teenage sensation Armando Pulido of Tigres. Patrick Nyarko and Chris Rolfe look more and more like serious contenders.
3. Colorado Rapids: (-1) A 1-1 draw is excusable with improving FC Dallas, but a 3-0 shut-out by the Seattle Sounders is not. Conor Casey is important, but the team shouldn’t fall apart without him. Omar Cummings now heading to the Gold Cup won’t improve the team.
4. DC United: (-1) A bye week passed, but nobody shook them out of their tree.
5. Columbus Crew: (+1) These days a 1-0 victory over NY means nothing, but Columbus is just a good, strong team. An evenly matched DCU game this week will be telling.
6. Seattle Sounders: (+2) Perhaps a 3-0 win over the surging Rapids signals a turning point in the Sounders’ mid-season doldrums – but only perhaps.
7. Real Salt Lake: (+2) A 3-0 win over goal-oriented TFC and a four game unbeaten streak brings RSL back into good favor.
8. Kansas City Wizards: (-1) Drawing the sketchy Revolution and being dumped in SuperLiga stamps a question mark on the Wizard’s credibility.
9. Chivas USA: (-4) Chivas crashed out of SuperLiga with two losses and tie, the only team to take two losses. The violent Chivas-San Luis match was hilarious entertainment if you’re the roller derby, Jerry Springer, how-low-will-they go type. If you like soccer, look elsewhere.
10. New England Revolution: (+1) The sub-par Revolution played carefully to tally two wins and a tie in SuperLiga and advance to the next round where they face Chicago Fire. Taylor Twellman is disabled and out for at least six league matches (some say forever), but 6'4 veteran Lithuanian striker Edgaras Jankauskas is moving in. Half the starting 11 is still on the injured list, but look for this team to make an impact late in the season.
11. FC Dallas: (+1) Dallas tied the solid Rapids and is accumulating points. Considering both the positive energy of momentum and the bad energy of the Red Bulls, who they face this week, FC Dallas deserve a jump in the ratings.
12. Toronto FC: (-2) Shut-out 3-0 by Real Salt Lake? Fortunately they have a bye week to figure out what went wrong.
13. LA Galaxy: (+1) The last shall be first. Well, almost last, and LA beating the first place Houston Dynamo is cause for celebration and a jump in the ranks.
14. San Jose Earthquakes: (-1) As the Quakes play RSL next week, the race for last place with the Red Bulls is on.
15. New York Red Bulls: (-) The Bulls were shut out by the Crew 1-0 to extend their winless road streak to 22 games, but face a fighting chance against FC Dallas this week.
