When Prints Attack

October 14, 8:49 PM
by Christine Epps, Baltimore Fashion Examiner

Christina Aguilera
This Pucci printed dress Christina recently wore to a concert.

Normally I’m a fan of Christina Aguilera and normally I’m a fan of Pucci prints, but when the two combined during the Africa Rising concert in London on 10/14, I gasped in horror.

And I mean gasped. I hate to be a fashion writer cliché, but what was she thinking? Christina is a curvy woman, and the print here draws your eye right to her chest. All you see is mountains, pink lipstick, and platinum hair- not the beauty and attention to detail that Pucci puts in all of their prints. This is a classic example of when prints attack. The dress isn’t ugly by any means; I think it would have suited a woman with a smaller chest, like Katie Holmes or Victoria Beckham.

It’s important when choosing a print to wear to thoroughly consider your body type. Anyone can wear prints, no matter their body type, but not everyone can wear the same print size. If you’re full-figured and do decide to wear a print, try and choose one where the repeating pattern isn’t larger than your hand. If you have a petite frame, you can get away with wearing larger prints, which may make you look curvier.
