Clean tech leaders gathered Tuesday in San Jose to participate in a discussion which was part of the Harvard Club of San Francisco’s Thought Leader series titled “Right Here, Right Now.”
Jonathan Livingston, president of Livingston Energy Innovations, said in his opening remarks that the clean tech industry in the San Francisco bay area is shaped by three major forces currently.
The first force is the convergence of energy with information technologies, the latter being an old and tested skill set in Silicon Valley.
The second force is the closely-knit network and thought leadership around the bay area.
The third is the ability of investors and clean tech leaders to cross the “valley of death” and to bring new technologies to market despite the difficulties involved.

Panelists at the program included Dan Adler, president of the California Clean Energy Fund; Melinda Richter, director of the Environmental Business Cluster, a non-profit organization which helps clean energy startups; and Rex Northern, Executive Director of Clean Tech Open, a leading clean tech business competition.
Augie Rakow, board member of the HCSF and intellectual property attorney with Alston & Bird LLP, is the chair of the event. He said his goal is to bring together thought leaders who work on the front lines of clean energy and technology. Mr. Rakow said he sees value in a discussion on the current state and the future of green energy technology in California, and in getting more leaders involved in the conversation.
The events are typically held in San Francisco, and are open to members and non-members.
