Our recent economic downturn has spurred a wave of entrepreneurial activity across the country during 2008 and 2009. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a foundation devoted to entrepreneurship, published a study in June this year which found that more than half of the companies on the 2009 Fortune 500 list were launched during a recession or bear market.
New companies are blossoming across the country, and networking opportunities among entrepreneurs seem to be on the rise. As a woman entrepreneur in technology, where would you go to meet kindred spirits?
The eWomen network is a paid-membership group which connects women and their businesses across the US and Canada. With local chapters in many metropolitan areas across the two countries, this network has a wide reach. The eWomen network also holds an annual conference and business expo.

Chicks who Click is a community of women with emphasis in social media. On August 22, Chicks who Click held a conference in Palo Alto CA which showcased a panel of women influencers in technology. One of the best insights of the conference came from Margaret Stewart of YouTube, who suggested that women should reach for jobs which will stretch them, instead of jobs they are overqualified for. Chicks who Click events are coordinated by Denise Smith of PR firm Metzger Associates.
