Originally shot in August of 2001, a "lost episode" of WTTW's Check Please! featuring President-Elect Barack Obama will air later this month. It will mark the show's 100th episode.
For those unfamiliar with "Check Please!," the format is one of a casual conversation amongst three folks (and the show's moderator, who is currently Alpana Singh but at the time of the Obama episode was Amanda Puck) discussing the three Chicago restaurants each chose and all visited. Below, you'll find a short clip from the "lost" episode.
According to the Sun-Times, WTTW did not explain why the original episode never aired, but the station has since re-edited the Obama review to include additional footage of the President-elect and will air the episode four times in January: Twice on the 16th (first airing will be at 8pm), again on the 18th, and once more at 4am on the the day of the presidential inauguration, Jan. 20th.
Obama's restaurant choice, Dixie Kitchen, has been around for nearly 15 years at its original Hyde Park location and has two additional locations in Evanston and Lansing. The restaurant promises "A culinary trip through the American South" and features plenty of Southern favorites such as Fried Green Tomatoes, Catfish Po' Boys, Gumbo and Peach-glazed Chicken Wings.
Given the history of Check Please!'s effect on local restaurants, I'd recommend making the trek to Hyde Park sometime before the episode airs, or suffer the clamoring masses sure to flock there immediately following the premiere.
