Throughout the rest of the month of March, supporting indie film is a "cup of tea." The latest promotion from Argo Tea—a Chicago-based tea cafe and wholesale company—is ChariTea, an effort to promote local non-profit businesses. For March, the Midwest Independent Film Festival will receive 10% of the proceeds of Argo's signature ChariTea drink.
For six years now, Argo been growing and spreading quite fast, trying to provide Chicagoans with a healthy alternative to their morning coffee house, donut shop, or bagel joint. Their ChariTea drink is a cherry juice and red-tea drink served either hot or cold. More information is available at the store, the Argo website, or the Midwest Film Festival website.
As for the Midwest Film Festival itself, the First Tuesdays series continues in just under three weeks with the Chicago Premiere of Michael Keaton's directorial debut The Merry Gentleman. The Sundance selection tells of a woman, new to the city and eager to start over, who becomes romantically involved with both a secretive, suicidal hit man and an alcoholic detective. The Midwest Film site seems to indicate there will be no appearance made by Keaton, however there will still be a Q&A featuring the writer and executive producers. As always the event, at the Landmark Century Cinema on N. Clark, begins with a Guinness cocktail reception and is followed by an after-party at Forno Diablo on W. Diversey.
Check out Argo Tea's website for more information on their very admirable promotion. They have twelve locations in Chicago and one in Evanston, so you really have no excuse not to check this out.
