2009 Crop Circle displays information coded in Mayan symbology.

Attendees at the World Mysteries Conference in Tempe were dismayed to hear that the famous Anna Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull would not be on display due to the diagnosis of caretaker Bill Homann with a case of the swine flu, however the remainder of the conference did not disappoint. Today's session will conclude with a rare gathering of powerful ancient and contemporary skulls, which promises to be engaging. Thursday is reserved for private session consultations with specific skulls and their custodians.

Tuesday's session began with the activation of a crystal skull by the reading of a lost Codex by Mayan shaman Hunbatz Men. This invocation is part of the more esoteric design of the conference, whose final public day was planned over a year ago to coincide with the last day in this century that can be expressed entirely in single digits. The Mayan culture was driven by nuances in time, time keeping and the significance of certain dates in their complex cyclic calendar.

The opening ceremony yesterday is part of a process of awakening that the followers of the skulls believe is currently underway and of which the Tempe conference is a component.

In a later presentation noted Mexican television presenter Jaime Maussan revealed the existence of his personal crystal skull collection, including 'Rosie' a rose quartz skull discovered when a road construction crew cut into an embankment. Mussan's prime message, however, was to make the connection between the crystal skulls and their prophecy and the UFO phenomenon which he has studied for years.

The connecting link is the Mayan prophecies of change and enlightenment in the coming years, culminating in the winter solstice of 2012. While many native people's oral and pictographic traditions echo the concept of a transition to a new world in this time frame, including the Hopi, the Mayan infuence is being seen in a surprising venue--the corn fields of southwest England, where a series of massive and complex crop circle formations in recent years has been encoded with symbology easily recognizable to scholars of Mayan graphic language.  The crystal skulls have been used as part of the process of maintaining and transmitting Mayan (and other) prophecy.

Embedded in the complex glyphs of British crop fields are numerological references to the strange absence of sunspots in recent months, the 12 year traverse of the zodiac by Jupiter and events in the run up to the Dec 12, 2012 conclusion of the current Mayan time cycle. In particular, May 20th through June 6 of 2012 are defined as a period of an undefined key event, although the period includes the concluding event of a rare double transit of the sun by the planet Venus, long a part of the 2012 event cronology.

The complex glyphs of early 21st century England have begun to mirror the kind of temporal prediction of the ancient Mayan civilization of tranformational events in the near future. The implications of this are tantalizing, however the hard science remains somewhat intangible. For one thing, there has been a change in the tenor of the crop circles in recent years and a number of the more spectacular formations are felt by some researchers to not be 'authentic' in that they are not from the same source as the historically genuine circles. Secondly the process of extracting information from the circles and the Mayan glyphs involves a certain amount of inference, which opens the door to the interpeters preconception influencing the message. And lastly, the designers of the recent Mayan crop circles -- whomever they may be -- may merely be 'riffing' on the themes contained in ancient Mayan symbology as it is understood in modern times, rather than using a modern medium, the crop circle, to extend an ancient message.

Although the grand ballroom of the Embassy Suites in Tempe is lined with vendors and the room filled with the collective energy of hundreds of crystal skulls and similar crystal artifacts, genuine curiosities are not limited to the presenters and the vendors.

The attendees are well versed in the crystal skull phenomenon and many brought their own skulls to share in the invisible energy transfer said to occur when skulls gather. Crystal skulls of various forms and nature seem to have occurred in ancient cultures around the world. One attendee traveled from South Africa to Arizona specifically to attend this event and brought along an exceedingly rare pair of crystal skulls recovered from an excavation in the Himalayas, along with a stone disc similar to a Dropa stone. Massive skulls carved from huge blocks of quartz crystal dominate the speaker's stage providing counterpoint to the tiny, hand crafted skulls on display in the vendors area.

In addition to the final mass skull gathering, today's lectures will include discussion of the skulls 'Maya' presented by Jane Doherty; 'Rainbow' presented by DaEl Walker and 'Bob' presented by conference organizer Cece Stevens.
