The attempt to wipe out horse slaughter is just that...an attempt to ban all horse slaughter in the United States. However, the pro-slaughter advocates are trying to scare the livestock industry into believing that the ban on horse slaughter is the first step to banning all livestock slaughter. What does this accomplish? It will mean that, if the people involved in the livestock industry were to believe this garbage, they would add numbers to the campaign to bring back horse slaughter.
I am not pro-slaughter of anything, however; I do feel it is right to make a distinction between horses and livestock. Horses are not categorized as food animals, they are, in fact, considered companion animals by the Food and Drug Administration. So, if we don't slaughter our other companion animals, such as our cats and dogs, which would be absolutely horrific, why would we slaughter our horses?

Another article tells the truth about how many unwanted horses are really out there right now. Despite numerous stories of horses going to kill auctions, or being abandoned, there aren't as many out there as people may think. Due to several breeders cutting back or going completely out of business, the amount of unwanted horses has gone down in the last couple years, and soon there will be even less. This article will make horse sellers think twice about who they sell their horses to and for what price. Kill buyers are going so far as to post ads on craigslist and even pose as a buyer who will give the horse a lifetime home. BEWARE! There are VERY gruesome photos of horses injured or killed in transit to slaughter laid into this article. Click here to read this article.
