Michael Jackson, songwriting icon, dead at 50
I used to rip his pictures out of my Tiger Beat magazines and place them in my night table drawer next to David Cassidy and Donny Osmond. I was so in love. I’d go to the local record store and buy the Jackson 5’s singles: ABC, Got to Be There, The Love You Save, I Want You Back, I'll Be There, and my all-time favorite, Maybe Tomorrow,
In the eighth grade, I saw the Jackson 5 at the Denver Coliseum, a cavernous place with terrible acoustics. I sat all the way in the back stricken, amazed, mesmerized.
As a songwriter, I was heavily influenced by Michael’s music and his spectacular ability to recreate himself as an artist. Here he is with his brothers singing my all-time favorite. Although Michael didn't write this song, his performance is stellar. Maybe Tomorrow is one of the many miraculous songs he performed as a child, and that influenced him as a songwriter.
He was such a kid here and such an unbelievable talent.

Here's to you, Michael, may you rock the heavens and rest forever in peace...
