From an email sent out by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center:
Charles Huntley Nelson (1970-2009)
We were pleased to open Charles’s installation Alphaville (Preview) at the Contemporary on June 26. Numerous friends and supporters were here to celebrate with him and discuss the large-scale project that we were developing with him for fall 2010. His current exhibition is on view until August 16.
Charles was a talented and generous artist whose multi-faceted artworks were exhibited in Atlanta and beyond. His contributions to this city’s arts community were significant and his outlook on life and friendship appreciated by all who knew him. Charles is survived by his wife and two young sons.
The Contemporary is organizing a memorial tribute to Charles to take place on Sunday, August 30. There will be a program of select speakers, and a maximum capacity of 450. Additional information and details to be announced.
For more information about Charles Nelson, see biography on his website.
