It's another day of rough waters for the GOP as Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina resigns as head of the Republican Governors Association amid talk of an affair. Sanford was reported missing over the weekend by his wife. He was speculated to be first "taking a break", then hiking, and now it turns out he was in Argentina.

That said, we in the GOP cannot allow the press and the Democrats to shift focus from what's important for the country. Cap and Trade, known to most on the right as "Cap and Tax" is looming. Tonight President Obama will take over ABC to send his healthcare message, and ABC is not allowing dissenting messages on its airwaves.

Sanford, a rising star within the GOP and a fierce opponant of the Stimulus spending, will remain Governor of South Carolina, at least for the time being.

His affair is an embarrassment to the party, but even more so to his family, and we must think of them before we hurl invective at Sanford. We must also keep in mind that extramarital affairs in politics are nothing new, though it is highly unlikely Sanford will be treated with the kid gloves used to handle the revelation of John Edwards' love child.

Let's try to stay focused on the issues at hand: Out of control government spending, the impending nationalization of health care, and the further loss of industry in America due to carbon restrictions.

For more info: At the time of this posting, Governor Sanford's website was down.
