Friday at the Las Vegas International Film Festival. Screenwriters Panel discussion, Stars and their guitars and a new Robert Pattinson movie.

What a great day at the Las Vegas Film Festival. My favorite film today was the Morgan Freeman documentary on integrating a prom in a small Mississippi city.

There was so much more going on.

A panel discussion with screenwriters. Some of these writers where winners of a screenwriting competition and some were seasoned writers. As indie film writers they were very forthcoming with suggestions and information on how they work and how they get into their work zone. It was an interesting discussion.

Stars and Their Guitars. A documentary that not only took you through the history of the modern day guitar, it also featured interviews with some of the best guitarists that ever lived. Duane Eddy, Dick Dale, Joe Satriani, and the wonderful Les Paul.

Each brand of guitar was examined including a view of the process of making the guitars. Each star explained why a certain guitar was his or her favorite. Very well done. Many rare interviews and a whole lot of praise for The Beatles.

Barry Pepper was presented with a Best Actor award for the film "Like Dandelion Dust." There was a Q&A after the award and this versatile actor talked about his career and why he liked about his part in Dandelion.

And the big event for today was the first viewing (at this festival) of the new Robert Pattinson film "How to Be." Billed as a comedy, it was a bit hurtful to watch. It was full of teenaged angst and with every corner that Pattinson's character Arthur turned his worse fears were always confirmed. After reading some of a self-help book by a Canadian psychologist , Arthur pays for the Dr. to come to live with him and teach him "How to be." Robert Pattinson (Harry Potter, Twilight) is an excellent actor and will be a huge star for years to come. I don't think this movie will add too much to his fame, but it was an interesting study in humanity, sometimes at it's worst.
