I forgot how much I missed Ann Delisi on WDET until she came back and reminded me. Her new show, "Ann Delisi's Essential Music" airs every Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. on WDET-FM (101.9) and what a breath of fresh air (wait, that's a different public radio show).
What I always loved about Ann was the fact that if you couldn't find some music that fit your mood of the moment, just put Ann's show on and her eclectic mix of everything from jazz to punk to blues to soul would most likely set your mood. Add to that the fact that every hour features some homegrown Detroit music and you've got a good reason to stretch an hour of in-car errands to four hours.
When my Sirius satellite radio went on the fritz for the second time in a year, I went to my old standby Saturday morning, drive-around-errand-station, WDET. I was hoping to find a blues broadcast (I used to plan my errands around "Blues from the Lowlands"), but I got a late start and didn't get into my car until after noon. What a wonderful surprise hearing Ann Delisi's great voice followed by what I've always considered to be one of the best music radio programs ever.
I'm not sure if Ann left WDET or WDET left Ann, but she disappeared from their airwaves in the mid nineties. Since leaving the station, she has kept very busy with some pretty impressive voice over work for such clients as Kentucky Fried Chicken, the North American Auto Show, General Motors, Ford, Quicken Loans and many others.
But, now Ann Delisi is back to make our weekends a bit more musical and entertaining with her own mix of music and live interviews.
I, for one, am glad she's back. She rocks! And she jazzes! And she souls! And she blueses!
