The San Francisco Bay is blessed with great sailing and enthusiastic sailors. There are numerous one design fleets, races every single weekend, and enough wind to keep everyone happy. The biggest problem seems to be lack of time to sail.
What do you do when you have to be in an office, working and not sailing? Well, you can read about sailing and again, we are lucky to have some great sailing resources online, both locally and nationally.
Local online sailing resources:
Latitude 38 -- the grand-daddy of them all, this excellent magazine (both paper AND online) keeps account of the local racing scene, bay area sailors around the world and just a tiny bit too much emphasis on cruising in Mexico. 'lectronic latitude is a must read daily (errr, Monday Wednesday Fridaily).
NorCal Sailing -- these guys are so involved in the local racing scene that they even help rescue MOBs. Look for a weekly update on the racing scene.
National online sailing resources with a fiar representation of Bay Area Sailors:
Sailing Anarchy -- not for the faint-hearted, this "radical" sailing community has very active forums filled with industry insiders, racers, cruisers, and a large population of idiots (these classifications are NOT mutually exclusive). Check out all the forums to find out where you fit best.
Sailing Scuttlebutt -- a daily synopsis of news and commentary. This resource generally has a more sedate, less biased view of the sailing world. Nobody on Sailing Anarchy will admit it, but EVERYONE reads Scuttlebutt.
The Daily Sail -- this is a subscription based newsletter that I don't subscribe to but everyone who does says it is fantastic.
Sailing Blogs -- there are too many to list, but check out Tillerman's world famous top ten list to get an idea of some of the good ones.
You can also check in periodically with Examiner.com for informed, exciting commentary! Leave any other resources in the comments to help compile the authoritative list.
