What is a binky? And, no, it’s not a pacifier. Welcome to the last and Part 3 of our Rabbit series.
A lot of people aren’t familiar with the ins-and-outs of owning and caring for a rabbit. They need love, patience and respect just as we do. So in preparation for your decision to adopt one, or if you are a current owner check out a great blog called, The Rabbit Advocate, by Mary Lempert a rabbit behavior consultant to the Boston MSPCA. Mary is a long time rabbit owner.
Her blog answers the many questions you may have about being a rabbit owner, including “What is a binky?” She has information from “A-W” with topics ranging from allergies, behavior, digging, fur, and poisonous plants to vision. She is a wealth of knowledge about raising rabbits and is a great resource. Once you bring your adorable bunny into your home keep The Rabbit Advocate close by in case you have any questions about your new, found friend.
One of my favorite blog posts is Rabbit Talk: What's a binky? In case you are still wondering, a binky is a very fast, wild dance that a rabbit does when it is happy and playful. Rabbits have been known to actually jump up off the ground, twisting, bucking, and changing directions as if you wound them up like a spinning top. And no, they are not having an attack, they are doing their happy dance! Watch the video below and see for yourself. This wild and crazy bunny is named Hoppel. The good news is his happy feet got him adopted!
Note: If you are in a rush watch the first 15 seconds and then forward to the 2:00 minute mark to see Hoppel do his best “binky dance.”
