2010 is coming. Specifically, November 4th, 2010 is coming. That is election day, and a day much may change. The Gun Rights Examiners have asked you to write your congressmen and women many times about various legislation, but now we have a very powerful tool for getting more done. The National Rifle Association has launched Trigger the Vote, a website to facilitate voter registration for those folks who are inclined to support the Second Amendment. Like Rock the Vote and the many similar sites instituted before other elections, Trigger the Vote seeks to increase voter registration among a specific interest group.
You might not want to beard the lion by starting a discussion with a Brady Campaign enthusiast, but you can certainly ask around among your friends at the range or at work to see if they are registered to vote. Approximately 72% of all voters are registered. That means a quarter or so of the possible voters can't vote in the next election. We need to make sure that all the possible voters with our shared values are registered, because no matter how stirred up they get by November 4th, if they are not registered they can't vote.
Our country is founded on representative democracy. We don't vote personally on every issue that comes up. We send representatives to our State houses and the US Congress to vote on our behalf. It makes sense that we choose people who will vote as we would have. Please make sure you and similar minded people you know are registered to vote, and then get to know the candidates views on issues that matter. There will be many fresh faces this election cycle and you must decide who will best represent you in the halls of power. Get out the vote!
