I wonder how many of the passengers on United flight 93 on September 11, 2001 would have thought themselves capable of facing death with a roaring charge to the cockpit? Our modern culture seeks to create sheep; Folks who go along to get along, seek compromise and accommodation. Political correctness tells us not to offend anyone. Your truth isn't my truth - moral relativism means we can't judge their values or motives. Hogwash! I think September 11th changed the rules. We had a hard lesson in the reality of evil. Evil can be a single mugger by an ATM, or a government bent on subjugating its populace. In all times and places, we need to stand firm against evil.
My children take Kung Fu lessons. They are learning defensive blocks and punches, but more enduring and definitely more important, they are learning that it is OK to fight back. They are being inoculated against victimhood, being given the choice not to be victims. You might think I'm talking about the forms they are learning. That's part of it for sure, but the real power is in learning mental toughness. I define mental toughness as the calm acceptance of an emergency. Do what must be done. I hope their attitude is, even if they get hurt, they won't go down without a fight. More and more I see Americans bracing to defend themselves. At this point it is a general unease but I sense a rising passion. Fight your battle where you are. With our current Attorney General, and legislation like Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 (H.R. 45) lying in wait, the storm clouds on the horizon seem to be growing darker. Just like the passengers on flight 93, you are capable, but it won't cost you your life. Do what must be done. Write, call, or email congress and denounce that bill! Let us not go meekly to our fate.
