Many years ago, I lived in Utah and had the pleasure of visiting the Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT. I was then, and still am, amazed at what this wonderful organization has been able to accomplish.

One of the more well known, if not one of the first, pit bull advocates in the country, Best Friends has not always strived to do or be what is popular, but always what is right.

So it is with my deepest regret and heartfelt condolences that I report today that Mr. Ernst Paul Eckhoff, one of the founders of Best Friends Animal Society, died Tuesday in a car accident.
Although I was not blessed to meet this incredible man, his impact will continue to resound throughout the world around us, setting the standard to which we can all only hope to achieve.
I can only imagine the wondrous reception he will receive at the Bridge.
Farewell, Mr. Eckhoff. And thank you.
