Online shopping has become the choice option for finding great deals on just about anything your heart desires. But one new way to shop for clothing and accessories is members only sample sales. Sample sales are when designers sell their sample designs to make room for the new season.

What are samples?

Samples are the initial collection designs that are given to showrooms, magazines, and stylists to get the collection sold to retailers and featured in editorial spreads. Normally samples come in sample sizes that range from 0-4; sadly that limits who can participate in sample sales.

Designers use to limit sample sales to one day events in their boutiques and showrooms. Sample sales then developed into larger events with multiple designers selling their samples in a convention style setting. Billion Dollar Babes were one of the initial hosts of these sales. Once reserved for celebrities and fashion insiders, Billion Dollar Babes now opens their events up to the public with free registration and offers a daily online sale with different designers every 36hrs.

How these sales work

Billion Dollar Babes advertises an invite only membership, but anyone can visit their site and create an account. Once your account is created expect to receive weekly email updates on which designer sales are happening that week. The benefit of such sales is the extremely reduced price, the downside is being patient for your preferred designer's sale.

Other similar sites, Ideeli.com, Gilt.com and Giltfuse.com, operate in the same way offering free memberships and timed sales. The major differences between these sites are the designers they carry and the referral programs. Billion Dollar Babes offers a $10 referral credit towards purchases for every new member you invite, the credit is applied after your invited member's first purchase.Gilt.com, who offers more well known luxury designers, has a referral program with a $25 credit. Giltfuse.com is the sister site of Gilt.com offering more affordable but still well known brands.

Shop Smart

The way to get the most out of sample sale sites is to keep an eye on when your favorite designers will launch their sales. Also continue to search the web for great deals, sample sales have a reputation for amazing sales but there may be better deals on eBay. Another tip is to be sure to invite all your friends and family to receive the referral credit. Enough credits and a free dress or pair of jeans can be just a click away!
