Nick Schuyler has been admitted into Tampa General Hospital in critical but stable condition after being rescued by the U. S. Coast Guard. Schuyler was spotted Monday afternoon some 38 miles off the Florida west coast by the Coast Guard cutter Tornado, clinging to the motor of an overturned boat. Schuyler reportedly says he was in the water since Saturday afternoon.
Schuyler's mother, Marsha, fainted when she heard her son was alive.
"I passed out," she said. "I went down. You couldn't ask for a better ending for us." She says Nick told her, “Mom, I kept saying you are not going to my funeral.' And that's what kept him hanging on.”
Schuyler’s father Stu says they are keeping the remaining missing men in their hearts and thoughts. The Coast Guard is continuing the search for former Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Smith, Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper and another former University of South Florida football player, Will Bleakley. All four men left on a fishing trip from Clearwater, Florida on Saturday morning then didn’t return when expected.
