Still, those same analysts say e-book makers could some day see a nice return on their investment.
This article from United Press International notes that sales of the Amazon Kindle are picking up, even though e-book devices have not caught the nation's fancy the way other handheld electronics have.
Analysts says the Kindle's price - even at $359, down from the original $399 - remains too steep for most consumers.
The article says Amazon has sold about 40,000 of the devices so far this year. The Kindle weighs about 10 ounces and can hold up to 200 e-books.
The article notes that Amazon could see Kindle sales of $2.5 billion by 2012.
