Does the Second Amendment work?

The second amendment has been around for 200 hundred years and it was useless to prevent this man from killing five people.
While superficially true, it highlights the commenter’s lack of reading breadth. There are as many anecdotal stories to prove the Second Amendment’s effectiveness as there are those that ostensibly support the need for gun control.
While 5 people died recently from serial killer Burris–ignoring the fact that there is no evidence showing that any of Burriss’s victims tried to defend themselves–many now-living victims successfully defended themselves against violent criminals in the last few days.
Aurora, Colorado – The 56-year-old owner of a check-cashing store
shot and killed a robber, one of two who held him up. After hearing one gunshot, a witness saw two men run out of the store. The wounded attacker died in a local hospital.
Police identified the accomplice, who has “an extensive arrest record going back to 1986.” The deceased “had numerous arrests for burglaries, domestic violence and parole violations.”
Memphis, Tennessee – Four men attempted to rob a 62-year-old jeweler as he was leaving a building after doing business inside. The four had followed their intended victim for a while, and police say this attack was well-prepared. But in all their preparation, the robbers missed one vital detail: the jeweler was licensed to carry a concealed handgun. If you view the video, note the effectiveness of armed defense: One elderly man evened the playing field against four healthy younger men by employing one handgun.
Little Rock, Arkansas – An employee of a local BMW motorcycle dealership was sleeping inside the business when he was woken by “a loud noise.” He saw a dark-colored pickup truck backing up to the building, so he armed himself with a shotgun. He caught one of the attackers examining motorcycles on display and shot once, wounding the man. Two other suspects, still in the truck, drove off, leaving their accomplice to be caught by police and taken to the hospital.
Baton Rouge – The owner of a transmission shop was attacked by three armed robbers as he closed for the night. He drew his handgun and fired twice, driving them off. Curiously, ten minutes later, police got a call from a local hospital about a young man who said he was shot by an unknown assailant in the area of the attempted robbery.
Jacksonville, Florida – A man was at home sleeping when he got a call from a neighbor, warning him that an armed intruder had just broken into his house. Armed with a shotgun, the resident shot the intruder in the leg, at which point the attacker attempted to flee. He was found and arrested two blocks away.
Whitney, Texas – After a man broke into his house and attacked him, the homeowner was able to break away and arm himself with a handgun, shooting the attacker in the abdomen. The attacker is now hospitalized and the sheriff plans to charge him with burglary after his release.
According to some, every crime victim must successfully use a gun to fight off an intruder, and every criminal must be unable to use a gun in furtherance of their enterprise, or else the Second Amendment is a failure and should be removed from the Bill of Rights.
Curiously, these complainers never apply the same criterion against other rights. Since their comments seem to consistently evoke counter-points from other readers, it would seem their exercise of free speech isn’t getting them anywhere, so are they going to lobby for repeal of the First Amendment?
OH! They already have!
McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform.
Fairness Doctrine.
Old Media coverage of the civil right of self-defense.
Their actions identify them as anti-Liberty. It’s not about guns.
