There’s a lot of talk about the Kindle. You know the digital book reader from Amazon.
Reviews are very positive and people that use it love it.

However if you’re one of those that isn’t ready to part with the $250.00 to get one yet hang on because Amazon has just released the PC version of Kindle as a free download. They say a Mac version is coming soon.

It’s not quite the same but it’s still pretty interesting and Amazon hopes it will get you one step closer to making the purchase.

Overall the PC version user experience is good. The download is simple and instillation is a breeze. You need to log in to your Amazon account or sign up for one if you don’t have one. After that just follow the prompts.

Getting books is also easy. In fact Amazon has a bunch of recent titles you can download for free as well as best sellers available for $9.99. There are new releases all the time and many magazines are also available. Currently Amazon says they have 360,000 books for the Kindle. A Google search for “free Kindle books” returns thousands of choices from the classics, to bibles to whodunits and more.

If you have an iPhone, there is a free Kindle app for you. Blackberry version coming soon.

So whether you’re reading on your PC, your iPhone or Kindle it’s all synced.

Digital readers are here to stay, it’s just a matter of who will win or if there will be room for more than one format. So far, the Kindle is leading the pack but Sony is making a play as well as a few other lesser known brands.

Is a Kindle on your holiday want list this year? What will make you take the plunge to buying a digital reader?
