The Buckeyes will look sharp when they take the field against Michigan on Saturday. Ohio State is one of 10 schools chosen for the Pro Combat uniforms Nike is rolling out.
The idea behind these uniforms was to evolve them to match the players. Today football players are faster, stronger, and they need equipment that can protect them and match the speed of the game.
Nike states that the new uniforms are 37 percent lighter than current designs. They also designed the stitching to not hold water or sweat, making the design 47 percent lighter than the standard uniforms when wet.
The Pro Combat base layer is designed to improve flexibility while adding protection. The padding zones are comprised of dual-density foam. These cells absorb and deflect collisions protecting the player.
The Nike Pro Combat Deflex shorts are made with Nike Dri-FIT fabric. This fabric keeps the players from being watered down by rain or sweat. It also provides the players with more flexibility.
On the uniform pant there is Nike Dri-FIT mesh. This is designed to provide the players with ventilation and keep them cool. It also helps the body in that the body does not have to use as much energy to regulate temperature.
The cleats are the new Nike Zoom Vapor Fly. These cleats provide cushioning in the heel. The cleats are designed around the team colors. The team logo is also featured.
Nike wanted to make uniforms in the tradition of each of the schools. For Ohio State they will wear a throwback version of their 1954 National Title team uniforms.
