Now we know: The big "like lava" dress. (AP photo)

“Dress for success,” goes the saying, and from all indications, country music’s Carrie Underwood takes the three-word directive to heart.

At least when it comes to this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, she does, according a recent AP report.

The Oklahoma native, who scored nicely at this year’s Grammy Awards, is no stranger to costume changes. In fact, based on file photos that are all over the Web, the petite performer relishes them and isn’t one to shy away from multiple wardrobe changes when the cameras are rolling. (She’s an entertainer, folks, so she’s allowed!)

However, on the eve of the 44th annual ACM contest, which will be delivered live via CBS-TV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on April 5, it’s Miss Underwood’s planned (but still a secret) attire that seems to be taking the spotlight and creating a buzz, not so much her Academy of Country Music nods.

That is, the anticipation is mounting, at least in fashion circles, about which dress, or dresses, Underwood will don at the star-studded event. And the golden-throated songstress, for one, isn’t giving any clues beyond telling the Associated Press that the dress she’ll wear during her ACM number is, um, “big” … “a lot of dress” … “hard to describe” … “kind of like water” … “maybe like lava” or even “red icing.”

Show-stopping fashion at the 2008 Grammys.
Alrighty, then. That narrows it down, no? So, with Underwood's hints in mind, this writer is going to make a huge leap and say the to-be-unveiled ACM dress is plentiful, and possibly somewhat billowy ... and of course, it is assuredly red—and with tubs o' visual texture. There!  With such descriptors in mind, the dress sounds perfectly, um, lava-like. ... I think.

Of course, if celebrity desiger Manuel, a favorite fashion architect among country musicians, had created it, we might be able to say it had rhinestones, fringe and embroidery, but no word on who created the “hard to describe” dress Underwood will display, but this scribe bets we'll know it when we see it.

Until then, let’s hope it looks good with the Entertainer of the Year statuette that the fashion-conscious country star is in the running for. She is, in fact, the lone female contender for this particular fan-determined ACM prize, competing against Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and George Strait--the latter of whom has already been named the ACM’s Artist of the Decade. (No pressure there, Carrie. You go, girl!)

The impeccably dressed, two-time winning and reigning ACM Female Vocalist of the Year will, by the way, will be the seventh female ever to take home the Entertainer trophy, if she indeed lands the prize. And if she doesn’t, well, she’s still likely going to be the best-dressed star of the night, so either way, Underwood is destined to be a winner and wow us all.

Country music's Carrie Underwood: Dressed to impress, always.
Carrie Underwood has become one of the most-talked about fashionistas within not only country music circles, but also within the entertainment world at large.
