Since I am a third party in the following controversy I can bring you both opinions and let you decide what is going on:
City gives Jewish Times financial break
One of Phil Jacobs' comments really caught my eye and made me think about a completely different subject matter that I think my fellow Jewish people need to think long and hard about:
"Excuse me. Open your eyes. Read the names on some of the buildings around the city, names like Meyerhoff and Weinberg. Check the left hand margins on the letter head of organizations within this city. The stake in this city from Jewish community members can’t be questioned except by those with an agenda of hate."
Jewish organizations and people have poured money into various Baltimore charities and feel-good organizations for years. The bulk of the poverty pimping organizations in Baltimore would not exist if it were not for Jewish financial contributions, yet Jewish people are just as despised as they ever were. You can never buy true friends. My advice to the elder and more established members of the Jewish community is to spend the overwhelming majority of your money on our own people in this city instead of worrying about what people who hate us think about us. Maybe then so many of us would stop quitting the religion. A people that constantly tries to fit in will end up not being a unique people soon enough. At the current rate Baltimore will end up a city with buildings named after Jews, people who talk about once having a Jewish grandparent, and no actual Jews.
