India v Australia and cricket news from around the world
The Aussies equalled the series by beating India in the fourth ODI at Mohali; making it 2-2. The teams now move to Hyderabad to play the fifth game. India will still be favorites but will need to guard against complacency that they do not take the series win for granted given the spate of injuries that the Aussies have suffered from.
The latest to join the list is Peter Siddle, who had a side strain in the previous game and has been ruled out of the series. This means that he is the eighth player after Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Callum Ferguson, Brett Lee, James Hopes and Tim Paine to be sent back home. On the other hand, India was without Gautam Gambhir because of a neck injury that he sustained while fielding at short-leg, but he should be fit to play in the next game.
Despite the loss, the Indians look head and shoulders above their opposition and the lack of personnel for the Aussies is one of the biggest reasons. That is also one reason why Sky Bet offers 8/11 for India to win the game as compared to Stan James’ 6/5.
In other news, Zimbabwe was shot out for 44 by Bangladesh in the fourth ODI of their series. This, incidentally is the fifth lowest total in the history of ODIs. The Bangladeshis scored the required runs easily, to win the game and take an unbeatable 3-1 lead with one still to play. Out of the top five lowest scores in the history of the fifty overs version, three have been scored by Zimbabwe, including the lowest ever of 38.
BCCI has banned one of their state sides, Services, from playing Ranji trophy this year, after they decided not to play against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar due to security concerns. That is the first time in years such an action has been taken by the BCCI.
