The basics of wind turbine technology involve the conversion of kinetic energy in the wind to mechanical or electrical power.


Wind is a form of solar energy. Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth's surface, and rotation of the earth. U.S. Department of Energy In an effort to better understand some of the mystique surrounding wind turbines, the U.S. Department of Energy developed an easy-to-understand visual to show how the process works. You can view it on their website.. 


Governor Jennifer Granholm continues to champion Michigan as the ideal location for manufacturers of wind technology equipment,  to groups like the American Wind Energy Association, which has been meeting in Detroit’s Cobo Hall this week. The concept offers promise for Michigan’s economic future.
