Jerry Montgomery was born in San Jose, California but for the past several years he has been a long way from home.
After serving in the Peace Corps (http://www.peacecorps.gov/) in Namibia, Africa, Jerry attended University of Denver’s School of International Studies. There, he met Rachel DuBois, a kindred spirit with a passion for travel. The two began a committed relationship without knowing where in the world their international job search would take them.
Jerry went back to Namibia through the Peace Corps’ returned volunteer program called Crisis Corps. Continuing to serve populations in need, Jerry then went to New Orleans to do Katrina Relief work. This job with The United Methodist Committee on Relief was funded through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
By this time, Rachel and Jerry were planning to marry in May of 2007. Two weeks before their wedding, Jerry got a position in Banda Aceh, Indonesia doing Tsunami relief. Although it was last minute, the couple rose to the challenge and set off together with their eight suitcases.
