When you are initially setting up your workout program, you need to have an idea of when your event will be, as well as the distances of each portion of the race so that you know exactly how to setup your training schedule.  Some athletes will use shorter races as warm-ups for a big race they have later on in the season.  The triathlon season in Colorado usually extends from May through September, while weather is still good.  A new trend for the winter season is indoor triathlons.  These involve swimming laps in a pool, running on an indoor track or treadmill, and biking on a stationary bike.  If this interests you check out your local facilities for these events as well.  Here are several possible events for you to look at participating in:

Denver Tri-For-The-Cure:  Sunday August 1st, 2010

TableMountain Triathlon:  Date TBA

Tri-It High Sprint Triathlon:  Date TBA

Danskin Women’s Triathlon Series:  Date TBA

Boulder Triathlon Series:

5430 Sprint Triathlon: June 20th, 2010

Boulder Peak Triathlon: July 11th, 2010

IronMan 70.3 Boulder: August 8th, 2010 

Harvest Moon Triathlon:Date TBA  

Fat Tire Triathlon:Date TBA

Mini Ha Ha Triathlon: TBA  

City of Wheat Ridge Triathlon: Date TBA 

Look at the websites and do some research.  Once you have selected the triathlon you can fully setup your training distances and training schedule to fully maximize your training.
