A spokesman for the Richmond, California Police Department is announcing new addresses where people can send gifts and contributions for the 15-year-old girl who was gang raped outside of Richmond High.
The attack happened on Saturday evening, October 24. The girl had to spend five days in the hospital recovering.
Richmond Police spokesman Lt. Mark Gagan said police have received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from all around the country and around the world. He said people are eager to send money, gifts or simply expressions of support.
Contributions can be sent to Mechanics Bank, 3170 Hilltop Mall Rd., Richmond , CA 94806 . Checks should be payable to "Jane Doe of Richmond." The account number is 041-30-1188.
Items such as cards, letters, teddy bears or other gifts should be sent to the attention of Sgt. Lori Curran at the Richmond Police Department, 1701Regatta Blvd., Richmond , CA 94804 .
Gagan said the girl collects teddy bears and enjoys shopping, clothes and music.
On Sunday, November 1, the San Jose Mercury News listed another address where people can send donations. The address is the church where the girl attended. In addition, last week Richmond High also announced it was accepting donations. The church's pastor told this reporter by e-mail that donations to the other addresses are fine with the family. Below is information from the San Jose Mercury:
"The victim's family has requested that donations and cards (no flowers at this time) be sent to Pastor Jim Wheeler, who is coordinating the funds on their behalf. Make checks out to:
First Presbyterian Church of Richmond,
3415 Barrett Ave., Richmond, CA 94805
with "Victory Over Violence Fund" written in the memo line.

Richmond Police continue to work around the clock rounding up more suspects. Late on Thursday afternoon, October 29, police took another suspect into custody. With the release of Salvador Rodriguez, five suspects will remain in jail for the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, October 24.
