UPDATE: HASAN LINKED TO 9/11 TERRORISTS
Nidal Malik Hasan: just a good American who snapped, or part of a pattern of Islamic terrorism?
Ex-Muslims indicate Hasan viewed the war on terror as a war on Islam. Source
Do not jump to conclusions about the shootings at Fort Hood, says our President, as Muslim spokesmen in the U.S. condemn the killings. (* More on the President’s astounding response below.)
Yesterday, U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, screaming "Allahu Akbar," killed 12 soldiers and one civilian on the post, seriously wounding 31 others. Hasan is American born. Hasan's cousin says he is a lifelong Muslim. Hasan reportedly planned the attack, clearing out his apartment, giving items away, and leaving at least one message for a friend saying goodbye. In weeks gone by he had researched suicide on his computer.
A convenience store video of Hasan early yesterday morning shows him dressed in full Muslim attire. Later, at Fort Hood, he appeared in his military uniform and reportedly perpetrated the shootings with his private handguns.
Family and associates say Hasan was under a great deal of stress due to alleged harassment by fellow Army personnel. Hasan, a psychiatrist, was also 'terrified' about his upcoming deployment to Iraq. Speculation is he snapped under the accumulated stress.
Without jumping to conclusions, engaging in racial discrimination, or otherwise stereotyping anyone, perhaps the record can speak for itself.
Since 1972, on American soil, at the hands of Islamic radicals, 3,308 Americans have been killed in 65 separate attacks.

How many Islamic terror attacks since 9/11 worldwide? More than 14,000 -Source
Number of people killed at by Islamic terrorists in the last 8 years worldwide?
Reuters reported April 2007 terrorism deaths worldwide had increased 40% from 2005, noting a high of 20,000 deaths in 2006, with about 14,000 killed in 2005.
The Rand Corporation, in a 2008 report, says the average was about 6,000 terrorism deaths globally per year from 2002-2007.
The record keepers at www.thereligionofpeace.com indicate Islamic terrorism in October 2009 alone accounted for about 900 deaths, with 2000 people critically injured in 15 countries via 156 separate attacks.
It is clear terrorism attacks are on the rise.
If we take a low estimate of 500 deaths monthly, globally, for the 96 months since 9/11, it is likely conservative to assert 48,000 people have been murdered by Islamic terrorists during that time. If the figure of 900 per month killed is closer to the truth, the number becomes 86,400.
If we split the difference, the number becomes about 67,000.
For the sake of perspective: the number of people executed during the 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition: estimated-2,000.
Number of Americans killed in the Vietnam War: 58,000.
Number of Blacks lynched between 1882 and 1964: 3,445
Number of Whites lynched between 1882 and 1964: 1,297

Some blame the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq for escalations of terrorism and no doubt the 20,000 killed in 2006 reflects increases in violence due to those wars. This is part of the problem involving statistics and asymmetric war: was the death a war death or a result of terrorism?
As far as Ft. Hood is concerned we are left asking was that an act of war, an act of terrorism, an act of treason or an act of insanity? Perhaps a bit of all four.

But let's not jump to any conclusions, says Mr. Obama. It would appear accurate to say Americans have been more than tolerant, believing most Muslims want nothing to do with terrorism. However, it also appears accurate to face certain realities: attacks are on the rise, more Muslims appear to be involved, clerics preach hate and killing routinely, and the tradition is one of aggression and world domination.
All this leads to a question.
Is it wise to think we have nothing to fear from Muslims in the U.S. military, or from Muslims occupying sensitive positions within law enforcement, the intelligence community, or the federal government?
We do know we can count on Mr. Obama to avoid hasty conclusions, as if the jury is still out concerning the linkage between the teaching and the behavior.
Additional information:
Ralph Peters on O'Reilly tonight makes an excellent point: since Hasan's anti-American views were well known, and his stability highly questioned by Army personnel, that fact he was still on duty, and able to perpetrate this attack, indicates the Army is suffering from a full outbreak of political correctness.
