On July 4, 1776 at 5:10 pm LMT, in Philadelphia, PA, representatives of the American Colony's signed the Declaration of Independence. While there is some debate as to exactly what time of day America was officially born, most astrologer use a chart called the “Sibly chart” which was originally published in 1787 and was partly based on eyewitness accounts of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Using this chart, America was born when the sign of freedom and beliefs, Sagittarius, was rising on the Eastern horizon, with the Sun in the emotional, mothering and protective sign of Cancer and the Moon in the sign of brotherhood and humanity, Aquarius .
Rick Lavine, Tarot.com's Cosmic Reporter writes: "It might surprise you to learn the “land of the free” is a home-oriented Crab, but many of the values most prized in American culture are very Cancerian. Cancer requires a safe, stable home base, and this was one of the prime factors that drove our forefathers! And by necessity, the Crab is the sign that protects its soft inner core with a hardened shell: although this is a very family-focused sign, it is also a sign that is ready to protect itself – you could argue that this describes the U.S. at various points throughout its young history." The Statue of Liberty perfectly express our Nation's Aquarius Moon
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
Robin Williams, actor, comedian and also a Cancer, jokes: "The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying, ”Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses.” She's got a bat out and yelling,'You want a piece of me???'”
The Moon in astrology is our source of security. With it's Aquarius Moon, America was born a nation of immigrants whose nurturing Cancer nature once reached out to enfold the world. But in recent years our nurturing Cancer Sun, tested by the reality of dwindling resources and huge emigration problems, has become self-protective. Cancer is the sign of the crab and America's "Department of Homeland Security," seems a perfect metaphor for a crab that is frightened, insecure, backed into its shell but with its pinchers out.
What can we expect on coming birthdays?
In his article titled, Special Alert: Horoscope U.S.A., written for Vanity Fair in 2006, astrologer Michel Lutin says, “A planetary configuration not seen since 1776 is coming our way, heralding chaos, revolution, and rebirth.” then concludes the article with, “Just as the British Empire began enduring sunsets after the fledgling colonies won their independence, our turn may be coming. The Pluto return of 2022 will demand a redefinition of the United States and create the ultimate identity crisis. We will have to put ourselves on the line, as we did in the 1770s.” Read more
On this 4th of July, perhaps it would be enlightening to look back to the past for an idea of what the coming years could bring and how we, as Americans, can become involved in the process of redefining America.
