After an absence of more than 12 months, the Orient Express' deluxe river cruiser Road To Mandalay  recently resumed cruising  the scenic waters of the Ayerarwady River through the heart of Burma between the cities of  Bagan and Mandalay. Besides offering three-, four- or seven-night cruises between Bagan and Mandalay, there are also three special voyages each year to Bhamo in the remote northern area of the country. All itineraries can be combined with stays in other Burmese destinations including the capital, Yangon, picturesque Inle Lake and the town of Ngapali on the Indian Ocean.

The ship's re-launch follows a complete refurbishment carried out by teams of local craftsman after the ship suffered damage during Cyclone Nargis. You can book space in the spacious new Governor's Suite or one of  34 deluxe staterooms featuring en-suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers decorated with Burmese Jade tiles.

The restaurant also received a complete makeover with the installation of traditional Burmese natural matting on the walls and ceiling. The interior is also adorned with teak wall carvings created by native artisans,.In addition, new menus have been developed by Executive Chef Christian Markert-Bourdon; a buffet-style lunch served on the Observation Deck and in the Restaurant features seven different themes during a week-long cruise - Burmese, Shan, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and European. For dinner, guests choose from a menu of Asian and European dishes that changes daily
Outside, the Top Deck and Bar boasts a newly laid teak floor with large cane sofas and chairs made in Yangon. The sun deck area features 15 new 'steamer'-style deck chairs with Jim Thompson fabrics used in the cushions. The ship also contains a Wellbeing Centre with exercise machines a workout area and changing facilities.

Cruise-only prices for the Road to Mandalay start at $2,318 per person/double occupancy. For further information visit www.orient-express.com.
