I operate under the premise that any day you can tick off a liberal can’t be entirely bad. Under that premise, CNN’s Lou Dobbs must be having some very good days indeed.
Apparently fretting that left-wing media are not left wing enough, MediaMatters.org (“Help us fight conservative misinformation”) recently went after Dobbs in an "report" entitled “Not just immigration: Dobbs out of step with his network on gun coverage.”
God forbid, you see, Dobbs reportedly devoted 11 times as many words to the topic of gun control than CNN’s “The Situation Room” (and no, they didn’t explain why “The Situation Room” should be the standard by which newsworthiness is judged). Translated, liberals will tell you which topics are newsworthy, and which are not, and don’t you dare disagree.
Accusing Dobbs of “fear-mongering” (that’s liberals’ definition of you mobilizing others to defend attacks on your rights), the report listed topics Dobbs has covered, complete with impressively irrelevant charts.
For example:
DOBBS: “New concerns tonight about Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor and her rulings on our Second Amendment rights. Specifically can states and municipalities restrict our gun rights? That's the subject of our ‘Face Off’ debate.” [Lou Dobbs Tonight, 6/5/09, from Nexis]
You! Gun nut! How dare you have the right to evaluate either a Supreme Court nominee or full incorporation of the Second Amendment into the Bill of Rights! We, the enlightened, will tell you what to think!
The “report,” of course, encourages efforts to “adjust” the format of Dobbs’ show. Most recently, Media Matters has released an attack ad against Dobbs’ coverage of whether Barrack Obama is actually eligible to be president of the United States, describing legitimate concerns shared by many thousands of Americans as “racially charged paranoia.”
Given that the left wing is once again trying to suppress dissent to its agenda, take a couple of minutes to send a note to CNN and give them, if not thanks, at least recognition that Lou Dobbs Tonight presents a rare example of balance in the media.
