At least nine people were killed and 31 wounded in a shooting at the Fort Hood, Texas, U.S. Army base Thursday, according to a report obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police. The NACOP report indicates there were at least three gunmen, two of whom was captured.

The leader of the attack is being identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as US Army  Major Malik Nadal Hasan. The identies of the other gunmen is still unknown.

The shooting occurred on the same day as a graduation ceremony at the base. The deadly attack began at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood.  The motive for the attack has yet to be determined.

Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the U.S., is located 60 miles from Austin, Texas. While base security was upgraded after 9-11 terrorist attacks, law enforcement officials believe the attack was carried out by men assigned to the Fort Hood installation.

President Barack Obama said that the families and soldiers were in his prayers and he was being apprised of the situation at Fort Hood.

The base is currently in lockdown mode, according to Fort Hood's website.
