Irish megastars U2 launched their first world tour in three years this week in Barcelona and will feature nearly two months of stops in 14 cities across Europe before heading to the United States in September.
Dubbed the 360° Tour, some 90,000 rabid Spanish fans turned up to cheer on Bono and the boys through a lively two-hour, 13-song set.
Always on the edge of innovation, the concert was held “in the round,” with a large, center-field stage that looked like a gigantic space ship that could be viewed from all sides of Barcelona’s huge Camp Nou soccer stadium (
Long-time U2 show director Willie Williams has worked again with architect Mark Fisher (ZooTV, PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo), to create an innovative360° design which affords an unobstructed view for the audience.
U2 360° also marks the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure.
The concert paid homage to the 40th anniversary of the first moon landings and even featured a live video linkup to the International Space Station.
Tickets are still available for the second Barcelona show on July 2.
The tour next moves to Italy on July 7 and then France, Germany and Holland with shows across Europe until late August.
The tour crosses the Atlantic for their first shows in Canada and the United States with two nights at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sept. 12-13.
In September and October, U2 360° Tour will also visit: Atlanta, GA; Charlottesville, VA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Norman, OK; Phoenix, AZ; Tampa, FL; Washington, DC and Vancouver, BC.
