Sarah Palin was the guest on Hannity, a popular talk/commentary show on Fox TV Network on Wednesday, November 19, 2009. In the interview, she revealed insights into her life as was written in her new book, “Going Rogue.” People seem to still be interested in her and her plans for the future from Atlanta to Alaska.

The first part of the interview centered around family. She tells about how she would go hunting with her Dad sometimes even before school. Once she recalls him shooting game and holding its still warm eyeballs in his hand and while that seems gruesome, she learned a lot from her father about hunting to fill the freezer, about animals, and how to appreciate and care for the land. Her father, a science teacher, often took specimens to school to share with his class.

She said things like this helped to shape her life and make her strong.

Hannity asked about her courtship with Todd and she said they met at ages 16 and 17. She was not allowed to use the phone so they communicated via VHF radio and later learned that truckers were listening in on their conversations. She told how they eloped when she was 23 – she said they were broke and did not want to wait for a huge wedding. Their first reception was held at a Wendy’s; but later on her parents gave them a nice reception. She said her mother cried when she eloped. She added that, heaven forbid; no way did she want her children to do that because she wanted for each of them to have a nice church wedding to start off their lives together.

She said she still wore her $35.00 wedding ring and how they had to go across the street to an old folks home to get witnesses for their wedding.

Hannity asked her about “the kiss.” She said in her book that Todd had tried to kiss her and she refused and he told his friends; and added even good guys can act like a jerk sometimes.
Then the conversation turned to her youngest child, Trig. She tells how she kept the news from Todd for several weeks after learning that their child would have Down’s Syndrome as she just could not tell him on the phone; but waited several weeks until he was home.

She said even though she was Pro-Life, she could certainly understand why some women under pressure of certain circumstances would just rather choose abortion and be done with the whole thing – putting it out of the way. She said that Todd had such a good perspective on things and he accepted the news by being reassuring. He told her that everything was going to be okay. And she said that it was… because Trig was a gift from God. She said, “God knows what He is doing.”

Facing a pregnancy with the perspective that things would not be normal and perfect, she asked, “Why us?” And Todd responded, “Why not us?” She said her kids reminded her so often of what matters in our country.

Then the conversation turned to her being approached by Senator McCain to be his Vice-Presidential running mate. She said she was surprised at being asked but had heard some rumors. She was skirted off to Arizona for her vetting and indoctrination.

She said that the campaign knew that her seventeen year old daughter Bristol was pregnant and thought they would have been forthright about it before the media released the news.

She said those who had done their homework in investigating her knew that with her, they would be getting a “colorful” family as well. She said that she had not wanted teen pregnancy to be glamorized – because it was a great challenge. She said that Bristol was embarrassed. She said she felt the campaign had missed the opportunity “right out of the shoot” to let the public know; but the press leaked the information before the campaign did.

She also expressed how it had affected her that the media reported that Trigg was actually not her child and in fact of Bristol’s – and how that had hurt their family. She said that being 43 years old, pregnant, Governor of Alaska, and the publicity could have caused some to make a different choice; but she believed that there was a purpose for every innocent life and she held on to the seeds of her faith and how grateful they were to have Trig in their lives.

She said she had not been prepared for the attacks; and it caught her family off guard; and how the Obama campaign sent loads of people to Alaska searching for anything to use against her – even dirty fingernails. She said her biggest worry was that they would find out that she once made a “D” in a class course at school.

She said the attacks were on her family were unprecedented as there had always seemed to be a policy that candidates’ families were off limits. But this group coming to Alaska was looking for anything to derail the campaign.

She said the most devastating thing was when a hacker broke into her e-mails and made them public.
When asked about the cruel joke Letterman pulled inferring that her fourteen year old daughter had been “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez, she said when first asked, she had not heard the joke; but thought it was sexist; and harming an innocent children was not “cool or funny.” She says as a Christian she forgives him and had no feelings of vengeance – but she would not go on his show and give him the economic advantage by boosting his ratings.

She was then asked about the cover of Newsweek Magazine, where she is posing in short shorts; and she explained the picture was made for a running magazine. She was an avid runner, and they did a health and fitness profile and then Newsweek put in on the front of their magazine. She said with all the issues going on in our country, she did not see why they would have put that on the cover. She said in light of what was going on in our country that should not have been showcased, that didn’t amount to a “hill of beans.”

Then the conversation turned serious when Hannity asked her if she thought President Obama was a socialist. She said that he certainly hung out with a lot of them and had appointed a lot of them to be his advisors. There was a discussion re-hashing by Hannity of his association with Ayers and Wright.
Next, they discussed the campaign. She said there would not have been enough pages in the book to cover all the conflicts during the campaign. She was criticized for protesting when the McCain campaign pulled out of Michigan. She said she didn’t want to give up but to “give it the old college try.” (She chose Michigan as the state to launch her new book.)

Hannity asked her why she didn’t speak out to McCain regarding the way she was being handled. And then what she thought of President Obama. She said that he was charismatic, articulate and was very gifted. She wanted to see him use those God given gifts to make better decisions regarding the economy; and not making decisions that was bad for the country; and not assisting small businesses to become successful as they were the backbone of the nation. She said she did not like to see our country get deeper in debt; but wanted to see it earn, produce, grown and prosper by using the common sense principles that Ronald Reagan had followed.

She felt our nation was going in the wrong direction by taking away from businesses and giving the government more power.

Sarah said that people had to speak up and have their voice heard… that the government works for them and not them working for the government.

When asked about her resigning as Governor of Alaska and would that give people rise to believe that if she ran for any other public office would they have cause for concern that she might quit. She said she was not a quitter – but resigning as Governor was the right thing to do for her state. There was too much emphasis put on her and the distractions were taking away from the work of the state. She said Alaska was in good hands with her former, Lt.Gov. Sean Parnell.

In regards to the War on Terror, she said that the president seemed to be “dithering” by not making up his mind after he had appointed Gen. Stanley McChrystal who had asked for 40,000 troops while he told the president that without them we were risking failure in Afghanistan.

She said her son had returned and she wanted to make sure her son, and every member of the military had the equipment they needed to get the job done. She said with the bringing of terrorist to American soil for trial seemed the President was more interested in their rights; and it was very scary bringing people to New York; and giving people protection under the Constitution who wants to destroy America.

Hannity asked if she believe the massacre at Ft. Hood was an act of terrorism; however, President Obama said were we're not fighting terrorist; but manmade disasters. She said she did. She also said the media would have their heads spinning and calling her a radical the next morning, but she believed that political correctness played a big part in what happened because no one wanted to speak up. She said we needed to employ everything we have to protect the country from terrorist. She believed it was a mistake to pull the missiles out of Poland. And she agreed that the present administration has assumed a pre 9/11 mentality.

Her take on Iran is that enough was not being done; and she felt that sanctions, cutting off imports, and working with Russia, England, Spain, and France to impose sanctions would help curtail their desire to build nuclear weapons.

When Hannity asked about the President’s embarrassing visit to China, she said we need to clean up our own house and put it in order by digging out here at home.

When asked about the Katie Curic interview, she said she screwed up and should not have been so flippant about it.

When asked about the caricature of Tina Faye, she said people needed to read her book and see her accomplishments in the various positions she has held. She said her record spoke for itself.
Sarah’s father said that she was not “retreating but reloading.” When asked about her plans for 2012; she said she wanted to help candidates get elected to get the economy back on track to give emphasis in her life to those with special needs. She said her life is in God’s hands. She said she is not thinking about running; but has not ruled it out.

When Hannity congratulated her on her book being a best seller even before it hit the shelves, she replied, “We are blessed.”

She launched her new book, “Going Rogue,” in Michigan where people stood in the cold lined up for hours to get a bracelet indicating that they would get to meet her. Some began standing in line as early as 4 A.M. One lady in line said that she felt Sarah was going places and that some day she would be able to say she had met her.

Woman to Woman: Love her or hate her, America has not seen the last of this outgoing and personable young woman. “Not retreating but reloading……..hmmmmm.”

There was another industrious young woman many centuries ago – you can read about all her accomplishment in Proverbs 31.
