Twitter is teaming up with TV producers for a reality show based on following celebrities who tweet.

Twitter is teaming up with TV producers to develop an interactive reality show where contestants stalk *trail* celebrities using Twitter. "Stalk" is not a term they use, of course. In a joint statement, producers announced Monday that  the show will feature "ordinary people put on the trail of celebrities in a competitive format," according to a report in Variety. One of the show's producers, Brillstein Entertainment's Jon Liebman, said:

"We've found a compelling way to bring the immediacy of Twitter to life on TV."

They didn't say what that "compelling way" would be, but we're guessing it could go something like this: On March 21, when Ashton Kutcher (aplusk) tweeted a photo of "wifey" Demi Moore (mrskutcher) pressing his tuxedo in a bikini, could contestants have figured out — just using Twitter — that he and Demi were in the Turks and Caicos islands getting ready for Bruce Willis and Emma Heming's private wedding?

They could have if they were following Brucey_Willisif he really is Bruce. Is he?

Well, you get the picture.

And, soon, so will everyone else who watches TV.

Amy Ephron will be the show's executive producer, along with Reveille's Mark Koops and Brillstein Entertainment's Jon Liebman. Reveille produces "The Office" and "Ugly Betty." Brillstein did "The Sopranos."

** IMPORTANT UPDATE: This story has generated a massive response on Twitter from people who do not want a reality TV show to destroy the free flow of communication they have enjoyed on Twitter. We agree with them one hundred percent. That's why we used the hypothetical example in this story as a possible scenario we would hate to see.  The show's producers have not said that this is how it would play out. As of this writing, they have not yet provided any details about the new show.
