Joseph Hyungmin Son AKA Joe Son AKA Random Task

Some crimes are so evil we hate to even talk about them. This is one of those. The only good news is that one of the suspects has finally been caught.

The man who played Dr. Evil's henchman, Random Task, in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" has been charged with kidnapping a woman and repeatedly sexually assaulting her while threatening to kill her during a brutal gang-rape on Christmas Eve in 1990, as was first reported by the Orange County Register and TMZ.

The Register reported that Joseph Hyungmin Son (AKA Joe Son) was arrested on Tuesday (Oct. 7) in jail for what is alleged to have been his role in the attack. He was serving time for violating his parole on an unrelated felony vandalism charge and was required to give a DNA sample. That sample matched DNA samples collected from the victim and the scene of her kidnapping, prosecutors said.

He was to be arraigned Wednesday (Oct. 8).

But the Register did not associate Son with the Austin Powers movie. Last night (Oct. 9), TMZ made the connection and reported the story, which has since been spreading around the Internet.

WARNING: The details which follow are not suitable for younger readers.

The Register reports that Son is charged with 17 felony counts related to the rape: five felony counts of rape, two felony counts of forcible sodomy, two felony counts of sodomy in concert by force, seven felony counts of forcible oral copulation, and one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force.

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said in a statement:

I hope that we can capture the second suspect soon so that Jane Doe can rest better at night, knowing the perpetrators who committed these violent acts are behind bars."

Son faces a maximum sentence of 275 years to life if convicted. That's nowhere near long enough for what he's done. Forgive us for being cruel, but we really hope other prisoners treat him like he treated his victim. When you read the details, you may agree. According to the Orange County Register:

About 12:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, the woman was walking back to her apartment with her dog after going to see Christmas lights with a relative and friend. As the woman was walking, an attacker walked up to her and asked her for directions, pretending to be lost, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Son and another man dragged the woman to their car, put her in the back seat and drove off. Her purse was found left behind where she was grabbed off the street. Her dog disappeared.

While driving to Huntington Beach, prosecutors said, Son and another man told the woman they were driving her to Compton, then pistol whipped her and threatened to kill her. Son is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the woman while in the back of the car. The other unknown man is also accused of sexually assaulting the woman several times.

According to prosecutors, Son threatened to kill the woman – counting the number of bullets in the gun – while the woman begged for her life.

After the ordeal, prosecutors said, Son and another man let the woman go, leaving her naked with her pants tied around her eyes.

Pure evil. Our thoughts and prayers are with "Jane Doe," who survived the horrific attack.
