Stanford hands Cal it's first Pac-10 Loss 75-69

Stanford took down Cal 75-69 tonight in front of 7,329 fans at Maples Pavilion. It was a very exciting game filled with many lead changes.
6-8 senior forward, Lawrence Hill, led the Cardinal with 25 points in 38 minutes of action. Anthony Goods contributed to the win with 19 points and Landry Fields chipped in 15 points and five rebounds.
Jamal Boykin led Cal with 22 points on 10-13 shooting. Patrick Christopher only took eight shots and had only nine points in the game.
Cal only went to the foul line three times the whole game while Stanford had 17 free-throw attempts.
The game had many lead changes throughout the first half. Stanford was up 35-32 at halftime.
Jerome Randle, the quick point guard for Cal, was held to 13 points by the Stanford defense. He had six turnovers and was hounded all night by Mitch Johnson.
Johnson had seven points, five assists, and four steals for the Cardinal. He made clutch shots and nice passes in the second half to help Stanford hold off Cal.
The Stanford defense limited Cal to only five three-pointers.
Stanford was up by ten with 1:45 remaining in the game when Theo Robertson made two three-pointers to make it 71-67 with 53 seconds left in the game.
The Bears would not get any closer than that as Stanford made their free throws to hold off Cal at the end.
Cal (4-1 Pac-10) is now in a three-way tie for first place while Stanford (2-3 Pac-10) is in seventh place in the Pac-10 standings.
These two Bay Area teams will be facing the Oregon schools next week. They should not have any trouble with either Oregon or Oregon State because those schools are a combined 1-11 in the Pac-10 and stuck at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings.
The next time Cal and Stanford face each other is next month on Valentine's Day.
