Jon and Kate plus 8
Cute as buttons but they need to be taught
                   how to treat their pets

The Berks County Humane Society was called into investigate after receiving more than a dozen complaints/concerns that the dogs were being abused and/or mistreated. According to the director Karel Minor, they checked with the Gosselin’s vet, verifying the dog’s licenses and vaccinations were up to date.

It’s not surprising the Humane Society as called in as Jon himself has stated that the kids are hard on the dogs. In fact he has gone into great detail, “The, kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they’ve done.”

Minor said, We’ve suggested they might want to teach the kids how to better interact with the dogs before there is a bite incident.”

Personally, I think that is an understatement! I know it is sometimes hard for kids to handle pets correctly, especially when they aren’t old enough to fully comprehend what they are doing. For example when my daughter was around 2, she would try and carry the cats that were nearly as long as she was! And as cats do, they let their discomfort know with a meow or a scratch. She would cry, not because the cat scratched her but because she has upset them.  And she would always let go saying ”ssawie Tuna” It only took a couple of times before she got it and would then sit next to the cat and pat her lap and the cat would come to her.

When we got a new puppy, it was our just 3 year old that had to be “trained.”  While we were always there with all of the kids, guiding them as they played or were even around any of our pets, she was the one that just wanted to hug him over and over. It really took very little to get her to back off once she learned other ways to show him her love.

So I find it a bit disturbing that Jon and Kate are allowing 8 children to continue to “beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around” these two puppies. And remember these kids are not toddlers; they are 5 and 8 years old! Really, how irresponsible is it to not teach your children how to treat their pets?
