A gun rights rally in Chicago, of all places? A bit counterintuitive, perhaps, but it's one more sign that the gun rights advocacy movement in Illinois is tired of playing defense--that now, it's the citizen disarmament advocates who are going to have to try to stop us, rather than the other way around.
If you live anywhere near Chicago, this is where you need to be on Friday, June 26th, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
The U.S. Supreme court issued a ruling recognizing the Second Amendment is an INDIVIDUAL right of the PEOPLE on June 26, 2008.
In light of that, The Illinois State Rifle Association and IllinoisCarry.com are sponsoring a Second Amendment Freedom Rally in the heart of downtown Chicago to celebrate the one year anniversary of this historic decision. Please share this information with all your friends, family, and associates that support the Second Amendment.
This is actually the second annual Second Amendment Freedom Rally (SAFR), with last year's having occurred on July 11th, 2008. It was kind of a rushed affair, with little time for advance publicity, but attendance was still respectable, given the fact that it was in the hostile environs of downtown Chicago. Last year's keynote speaker was Dr. (and former Texas Representative) Suzanna Gratia Hupp, who watched her parents brutally gunned down in the Luby's Cafeteria massacre in 1991, while her gun, in accordance with Texas law at the time, was left in her car, helping no one. She is a compelling speaker, as can be seen below:
This year's speaker should be no less compelling. Attendees will hear Ralph W. Conner, a long-time civil rights activist with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). If readers seem to remember having seen that name recently, it was probably in National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea's announcement of the superb "No Guns for Negroes" DVD, made and released by Jews for Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), and which featured Mr. Conner. As he succinctly states:
By definition, a slave is a person that is disarmed.
OK--so when and where, again? Glad you asked:
When?
June 26th, 2009
11am-1pmWhere?
James R. Thompson Center
100 W. Randolph St.
Chicago, IL 60601
Actually, the title might not be quite accurate--perhaps this event could be more truthfully described as "Celebrating gun rights in the enemy's kitchen"--and this time, something much better than Chicago's usual toxic stew of corruption is being cooked up.
Be there if you can.
